Hiroaki Hayakawa

Born in Japan, educated in the US (high school, university – undergraduate and graduate), BA in mathematics and economics, Ph.D. in economics (University of Michigan).  Crossed the Pacific Ocean as an American Field Service student from Japan to the United States, and graduated from Herbert Hoover High School in San Diego, California.  The AFS students from around the world had a chance to meet President John F. Kennedy.  This marked the beginning of my life and career in the United States.  In college, I was interested in philosophy as well as in mathematics and economics, and this interest continues to this day.  After getting my Ph.D. from the University of Michigan, I was mainly affiliated with the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia, where I served as assistant, associate, and full professor.  Served also as an interim head of the economics department, as director of graduate studies, as a member of the Executive Council of the College of Business Administration, and as a member of the University Senate.  I then moved to Japan and taught at a number of universities, private and national.  With this background, I have come to UBD (Universiti Brunei Darussalam), one of the fastest rising universities in Asia, and I am having a great time interacting with the bright minds of Brunei Darussalam.  I find the country beautiful and peaceful. Professor Hayakawa’s Book

Charis Vlados

Dr. Charis Vlados holds a Ph.D. degreewith a “Very Honorable Distinction” for his thesis on the types/forms of evolutionary integration of the enterprises operating in Greece into globalization that took place within the framework of the Research and Studies Center on Multinational Enterprises (C.E.R.E.M) of the “Paris X-Nanterre” University. The author’s primary focus is on the fields of corporate strategy, competitiveness, entrepreneurship, economic policy, and globalization, while he has established and developed the “Stra.Tech.Man approach” in the field of business dynamics. Charis Vlados has been workingwith various research institutes and as a business consultant, both in Greece and abroad, for approximately twenty years. He is now a lecturer (academic tenure) with the Department of Economics of the Democritus University of Thrace, while has also taught in the past at the Universities of the Aegean and Peloponnese, and at various Public and Private Centres of Studies. John K.E. Mubazi

Prof. John Kigongo E. Mubazi holds a Bachelors degree in Economics, single honours, from Makerere University in Uganda, a Masters degree in Economics from the University of Kent at Canterbury in England, and an M. Phil. in Advanced Economics and Quantitative Techniques from the United Nations University through the World Institute of Development Economic Research centre at the Bangladesh Institute of Development Studies in Dhaka, Bangladesh.  His Doctorate in Social and Economic Studies was obtained from the University of Economics and Business, Vienna, Austria. Some of the areas he has handled at Bachelors, Masters, and Doctoral levels are Quantitative economics, International economics, Research methods/methodology, Monetary economics, and Development economics.  He has published with the Cambridge University Press, UK; Makerere University Research Journal and Mawazo, Makerere University; Scientific and Academic Publishing and American Journal of Economics, USA; Lap Lambert Academic Publishing, German; Oxford University Press, Southern Africa; and Consilience: The Journal of Sustainable Development, based at Colombia University in the City of New York, USA. He has worked with Makerere (Mak), Islamic (IUIU) and Kyambogo (KYU) universities in Uganda as an instructor.  Short academic visits to a number of universities he has made include in Great Britain University of Oxford, Institute of Economics and Statistics; University of London, Overseas Development Institute, London; and University of Wales, Cardiff Business School, Cardiff.  The longer ones in England were to Lancaster University; University of East Anglia; and University of Sussex, Institute of Development Studies.  Short academic visits elsewhere include University of Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania; University of Nairobi, Kenya; Université de Paris III and Université de Cergy-Pontoise, France; and Wiener Universitäten, Wien and Karl – Franzens – Universität, Graz, Austria. Youssef Oukhallou

Dr Youssef Oukhallou is an experienced economist specialized in public finance and development economics. He has a PhD in financial macroeconomics from the Mohammed V University of Rabat (Morocco) and an MSc in economic development and policy analysis from the University of Nottingham (United Kingdom). With a combined experience of over a decade in government procurement, economic journalism and political campaign management, Dr Oukhallou offers in his publications a unique perspective that combines the analysis of legal and institutional underpinnings of economic phenomena with statistic-based inference. Dimos Chatzinikolaou

Dimos Chatzinikolaou holds an M.Sc. diploma from the Postgraduate Courses in “South-Eastern Europe Studies” (specialization in Economics) from the Department of Law of Democritus University of Thrace with degree excellent (10/10). Dimos Chatzinikolaou is now a Ph.D. Candidatewith the Department of Economics of the Democritus University of Thrace at the field of “competitiveness, business ecosystems, and industrial policy.” He is the co-author in more than fifteen scientific articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals and conference proceedings, while his main areas of research include, among others, the fields of globalization, competitiveness, economic policy, and entrepreneurship. Adamu Jibir

Dr Adamu Jibir is a Lecturer in the Department of Economics, Gombe State University, Nigeria. He holds B.Sc. Degree (Economics) from Gombe State University, Nigeria, Master’s Degree in Economics from University of Bahkt-Al-Ruda, Sudan and obtained his PhD Degree in Economics from the prestigious University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. He has published in international peer-reviewed journals. Nikos Deniozos

Dr. Nikos Deniozos is a Hellenic Coast Guard Commodore (ret.) Former Commandant of the Hellenic Coast Guard Special Operations Unit. Former Commandant of Hellenic Coast Guard Anti-Drug Unit. Former Head of Hellenic Delegation at EUROPOL in The Hague. Former Central Harbor Master at Central Coast Guard Agency in Chalkis, Hellas. His last position before the voluntary retirement was the Director of the Hellenic Coast Guard’s Civil Defence and Civil Planning Emergency Directorate. He has participated in numerous projects of FRONTEX concerning the illegal immigration combating and had also participated at NATO’s PBOS committee regarding the strategic maritime transport as a national expert. Chandana Aluthge

Dr Chandana Aluthge is a Senior Lecturer in Economics in the Department of Economics, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. He holds PhD Degree in Economics from VU Amsterdam and MPhil from Maastrich University. He also obtained his M.A and B.A Degrees in Economics from the prestigious University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. He has published in international peer-reviewed journals. He is presently the coordinator – MPhil/PhD Programme in Economics at the University of Colombo. Sule Akkoyunlu

Dr Şule Akkoyunlu is a Lecturer in Economics and Finance and also the Course Leader of the BA in Economics, Banking and Finance. She obtained a B.A. in Economics and Econometrics from the University of Istanbul, a MSc in Economics from the University of London, and a Ph.D. in Economics from Oxford University. She has held teaching and research positions at the Universities of Oxford, Kent, Bonn, Tel Aviv, California at San Diego, Zurich, Neuchatel, Bern, EUI, Vesalius College – Vrij University of Brussels, Tilburg, METU; the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich, OTA, and DIW. Her research interests include macroeconomics, international economics, economic history, development economics, econometrics, public economics, political economy, labour economics, demography, and international migration. Mario Coccia

Mario Coccia is a social scientist at the National Research Council of Italy (CNR) and visiting scholar at YALE University. He has been research fellow at the Max Planck Institute of Economics and visiting professor at the Polytechnics of Torino and University of Piemonte Orientale (Italy). He has conducted research work at the Arizona State University, Georgia Institute of Technology, United Nations University-Maastricht Economic and Social Research Institute on Innovation and Technology (UNU-MERIT), RAND Corporation (Washington D.C.), University of Maryland (College Park), Bureau d’Économie Théorique et Appliquée (Strasbourg), Munk School of Global Affairs (University of Toronto), and Institute for Science and Technology Studies (University of Bielefeld). Naveed A. Shaikh

Dr. Naveed has been teaching economics and other management sciences courses at university level since last 15 years. Further, he has a research record of 13 publications in various journals of international repute on international trade, consumption function, employee efficiency and welfare effects of free trade. Besides a long academic record of M.Phil (Pak), MSc (Economics) and B.Sc (Hons) Economics from International Islamic University Islamabad, he has earned his PhD in Economics with specialization in International Development Studies from Ruhr University Bochum Germany in 2011. Oded Kafri

Dr. Kafri was a senior scientist and a group leader at the Nuclear Research Center-Negev in Israel. He has published about 150 scientific papers, among them two pioneering papers on “Visual Cryptography” and on “Moire deflectometry” and holds numerous patents. Dr. Kafri has received several international awards, among them the CeBit Highlights award in 1994. Dr. Kafri founded three high tech companies and wrote three books: The Physics of Moiré Metrology, Entropy – God’s Dice Game, and Money: Physics and Distributive Justice” which is a description of the economy as physical phenomenon. Ana Paula Martins

Ana Paula Martins studied Economics in Lisbon at Catholic University of Portugal (BA 1982) and concluded a Ph.D. in New York at the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences of Columbia University (1987). She has taught at both schools and at New University of Lisbon graduate and undergraduate courses. Currently, she is Assistant Professor at the Catholic University of Portugal, where she has been teaching Labor Economics and Econometrics. She has published theoretical and applied research articles in Labor Economics and Quantitative Methods in refereed academic journals, and also been presenter and participant in numerous international scientific Conferences on various fields. Dawood Mamoon

Dr. Dawood’s research interests center on issues of national competitiveness. His research, published in the Journal of Peace Research and Economics of Governance, finds that bilateral and multilateral trade mitigates conflict between India and Pakistan, and would like to extend his analysis to look at how spending on education or levels of education behave with respect to conflict. He believes that one reason poverty has not been significantly reduced in some developing countries is due to prevalent conflict. He also is director of the Center for Graduate Research. Among the courses he teaches is Harvard Business School’s microeconomics of competitiveness. He also supervises Ph.D and MS research and manages MS programs in the School of Business and Economics. Bachar Fakhry

Professor Bachar Fakhry was born with a disability effecting his speech and hand movement. Nevertheless, he is currentlyan Assistant Professor of Research at the University of Lahore, School of Accountancy & Finance. He received his PhD in Economics from the University of Bedfordshire in 2015.His research is mainly in the areas of financial economics and econometrics with a special focussed on bounded rationality; conversely, he has authored and co-authored several papers on bounded rationality in the financial market. He, also, has two master degrees in Distributed Information Systems (1996) and Financial Management (2005), both from the University of East London. Sergey Ivanov

Dr. Ivanov is Professor of Management at the School of Business and Public Administration, University of the District of Columbia, Washington, DC, USA. Ron W. Nielsen

Ron William Nielsen (aka Jan Nurzynski) was born in Poland. He studied physics and mathematics at the Jagiellonian University, Krakow, Poland. He is a nuclear scientist. He has carried out his research work in the Department of Nuclear Physics in the Institute of Advanced Studies at theAustralian National University, Canberra, ACT, Australia but initially he worked briefly in the Institute of Nuclear Physics, Krakow, Poland. He also carried out his research work as a visiting professor in nuclear research centres in Switzerland and Germany. The objective of his research work was investigation of the mechanism of nuclear reactions, application of nuclear reactions to nuclear spectroscopy and a study of nuclear polarization phenomena. He supported his work by using particle accelerators (cyclotrons and electrostatic accelerators), a wide range of particle detection techniques anda wide range of mainframe computers for the theoretical interpretations of his experimental results. His work in nuclear physics is summarised in Nuclear Reactions: Mechanism and Spectroscopy. After his retirement, he became interested in environmental issues and published a comprehensive Green Handbook, where he discusses all critical events shaping our future. This book was endorsed by academics, including Nobel Laureate Prof. Dr. Paul Crutzen from Germany, and by other readers. More recently, he focused his attention on the issues associated with the growth of population and economic growth. The primary aim was to understand the Anthropocene, the recent strong anthropogenic activities and impacts, which have been proposed as a transition to a new geological epoch. In connection with this study, he formulated two simple analytical methods: the general law of growth, which can be used to study mechanism of any type of growth, and the relatedmethod based on the application of simple differential equations in the analysis of data and in predicting growth. Tai-Yuen Hon

Tai-Yuen Hon was an Academic Assistant/Lecturer/Senior Lecturer/Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics and Finance (formerly known as the Department of Economics) of Hong Kong Shue Yan University from 1993 to 2016 and is a Research Affiliate at the Business, Economic and Public Policy Research Centre of this University. Hany H. Makhlouf

Hany H. Makhlouf is a Professor Emeritus at the School of Business and Public Administration of the University of the District of Columbia in Washington, D. C. He has served as a Professor  of Management and International Business , Department Chair, and Director of the Master of Business Administration and the Master of Public Administration  Programs in the same institution,  published over 60 journal and newspaper articles, and co-authored three books. He has also taught at George Washington University, and served as a Research Associate at the American University in Washington, D. Falih Alsaaty

Dr. Falih M. Alsaaty is Professor of Management in the Department of Management, Marketing, and Public Administration at the College of Business, Bowie State University. He, in cooperation with other faculty members, played the key role in the creation of the College’s MBA Program. Dr. Alsaaty received his MBA and PhD degrees from the Graduate School of Business Administration (Stern School of Business), New York University, New York.
